Carers play a vital role in our society, greatly enhancing the quality of life for Care users, as well as many social & economic benefits for themselves and their communities. With an ageing population, more and more people require Care services each year, so the sector is under greater demand than ever before.

Many Care workers report that their roles offer hugely fulfilling and rewarding work, a social job that’s focused entirely on people. The satisfaction derived from making a difference and seeing how your hard work visibly improves the quality of life for Care users cannot be underestimated.

Many Care roles offer a way into the wider healthcare industry, offering experience at a slower pace than that demanded by nursing, and the opportunity to form long-term relationships with Care users

And in recognising all the good that our carers contribute, it’s important that we look after them in turn. One survey found that 71% of carers suffer from poor mental or physical health. With the ongoing difficulties in recruitment and retention within the Care sector, it is clear that although Care offers many benefits as a career, as an industry we need to do a better job of looking after those that do the frontline work that make it all possible.

These reasons are why we at Care Hires decided to launch #sharewhyyoucare week this January. Because we want Care workers to feel valued, the public at large to realise the great work done in the Care sector, and become excited about the opportunities to work in such rewarding roles.

So if you have a background of working in the Care sector, #sharewhyyoucare this week, let’s get the voices of Carers into the national conversation!
